Open Enrollment for Your 2027 City of Seattle Benefits Is Underway!
The annual Open Enrollment period for your City of Seattle benefits is underway and runs through 11:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30. Open Enrollment allows you to make changes to your 2027 City of Seattle benefits package.

During the City of Seattle’s Open Enrollment period, you can update your current benefit plans, enroll in new coverage, cancel existing coverage, and add or remove dependents from your coverage. You can also update your Life and AD&D insurance beneficiaries.
- You should receive a letter from the City about Open Enrollment. Click here to view the online version of the letter for Seattle Fire Fighters.
- You’ll find more information about your options in the “Open Enrollment Benefits Highlights for 2027” guide. The City also provides an Open Enrollment job aid to guide you through the process.
Make your Open Enrollment selections in Workday. If you’re satisfied with your current benefits, no action is required at this time.
After submitting your changes, select “View Benefits Statement” in Workday to confirm your 2027 elections. Print or save a copy for your records. Please note that you must click “Submit” to finalize your changes. Have questions? Contact the department’s benefits representative.
You’ll have the opportunity to make your FSA elections during the separate Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA Open Enrollment, held November 2–20. Look for updated FSA plan and enrollment information at the end of October.
Any changes you make during Open Enrollment will take effect on January 1 of the following plan year.
Important Notes
Seattle Fire Fighters HealthCare Trust (SFFHCT) Benefit Enrollment
The SFFHCT provides your medical, dental, and vision benefits, not the City of Seattle. You have through October 30 to enroll in or change your Trust medical, dental, and vision plans to best fit you and your family’s needs.
Questions? Visit the “Documents & Forms” section to view the latest Enrollment Guide, log into the Health Care Portal, or find additional contact information.
Flexible Spending Accounts
We strongly recommend taking advantage of the City’s Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options and, if you haven’t already, enrolling in the City’s Group Term Life Insurance program. It’s an affordable way to provide your loved ones with added financial security.
Open Enrollment is your opportunity to participate in the FSA program, which offers both Health and Daycare options. Re-enrollment in FSAs is not automatic—you must actively enroll each year, regardless of whether you participated in the previous year. Read our article “Do You Know Your FSA Benefit Options?” to learn more about maximizing your FSA benefits.
A separate Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA Open Enrollment will be held November 9–20 to make your 2027 FSA elections. Look for FSA plan and enrollment information at the end of October.
Life Insurance
The city-offered life insurance is provided by Securian. Learn more about the city-offered life insurance program at City of Seattle | Securian Financial.
If you’ve been with the service for any length of time and are now enrolling in the life insurance program for the first time, you must go through the Eligibility Verification process. This document outlines the Evidence of Insurability verification process.
If you choose to increase your existing life insurance coverage, the insurance carrier must approve your Medical History Statement before the change takes effect.
We recommend reviewing your insurance beneficiaries regularly. Take a moment to confirm or update your Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance beneficiaries in Workday.
